Adaptability is a Key Competitive Advantage

Everything moves quickly, and the traditional, linear approach may fall short in a world marked by rapid development. Some even speak of exponential growth – call it disruption, call it competition, call it development, or something else entirely – just don’t stand still in a dynamic world.

Something new is needed, and this applies to leadership as well – your leadership. Here, your adaptability becomes crucial for future value creation, as it is a competitive parameter in itself in a dynamic world. More than ever before, there is a need for leadership with a clear direction, vision, and a sense of how we want to create our future. However, your surroundings, your employees, must be involved in a completely different way so they can unfold their full potential, continuously develop, and not just “fit into” a specific box.

Your approach to development, renewal, and adaptation must be holistic and across the entire company, so it is not just one part of the whole that moves. It is a collective task, where development in the deeper layers of the iceberg, in the culture, comes into play. It is not a “quick-fix” – on the contrary, it is a continuous journey, where great opportunities for development and learning are hidden.

If you want to move something, you must start by moving yourself.
We must never forget that adapting is not about changing oneself but about continuously developing and realizing one’s potential within the conditions and demands that are set, regardless of where on life’s palette it concerns, rather than getting stuck in a specific office chair or maintaining a suboptimal structure or anything else – it does not create value, neither for you nor your surroundings – and certainly not in the long run.

It is a long learning journey, and actions must help create the future for all of us, but our linear mindset struggles to keep up unless we consciously make an active effort and find the courage to unlearn and thereby create space for new learning.

You don’t need to start a revolution – there is usually something very good to build on. It doesn’t have to be a revolutionary development you embark on, as there is always something good to build on, a strong foundation or DNA, if you will, and from here ensure that future development becomes a positive and enjoyable process.
