I encounter many who are unsure about what sustainability really entails—and whether it’s something for them. Sustainability is for everyone and encompasses factors such as ESG—environmental, social, and governance aspects—which everyone can contribute to, and most are already doing something that supports sustainability without even realizing it. In addition to making sense for all of us, there are several good reasons to work purposefully with sustainability, for example:
· It can contribute to increased financial performance
· It can meet market demands from various stakeholders
Other benefits of working with sustainability at a strategic level can include:
· Increased efficiency and cost reduction
· Innovation and valuable development
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution to this, and it should obviously make sense in relation to where you are today! It’s not a quick fix, and we need to think carefully because the big picture must remain intact and ensure a healthy economy overall. There are many examples of strategies and business models working towards more sustainability—even some of the biggest players in the global market are focused on this—and everyone can, and most are already doing more than they think. So, let’s ensure sustainable growth by integrating sustainability—tailored to your reality—into the overall strategy and setting concrete and relevant metrics in that regard.
